Appearing at a press conference today, General Rgrmrmy The Lesser, stated that "the object was, in fact, a harmless high-altitude weather balloon, not an alien spacecraft". The story broke late Friday night when a major stationed at nearby Ares Vallis Air Force Base contacted the Valles Marineris Daily Record with a story about a strange, balloon-shaped object which allegedly came down in the nearby desert, "bouncing" several times before coming to a stop, "deflating in a sudden explosion of alien gases". Minutes later, General Rgrmrmy The Lesser contacted the Daily Record telepathically to contradict the earlier report. General Rgrmrmy The Lesser stated that hysterical stories of a ARMS Email System detachable vehicle roaming across the Martian desert were blatant fiction, provoked by incidences involving swamp gas. But the general public has been slow to accept the Air Force's explanation of recent events, preferring to speculate on the "other-worldly" nature of the crash debris. Conspiracy theorists have condemned Rgrmrmy•s statements as evidence of "an obvious government cover-up", pointing out that Mars has no swamps. ---end forwarded text Philip Schuler http://www.wam.umd.edu/-pschuler University of Maryland, College Park mailto:psll2@umail.umd.edu -------------------- ATTAC H MENT1 ------------------- ATT CREATION TIME/DATE: 0 00:00:00.00 TEXT: RFC-822-headers: Received: from conversion.pmdf.eop.gov by PMDF.EOP.GOV (PMDF V5.0-4 #6879) id <01IL4NPR0CXC008YBN@PMDF.EOP.GOV> for droege_p@al.eop.gov; Fri, 11 Jul 1997 23:59:40 -0500 (EST) Received: from storm.eop.gov (storm.eop.gov) Page 2 of 2 by PMDF.EOP.GOV (PMDF V5.0-4 #6879) id <01IL4NPKW1S0095Cl@PMDF.EOP.GOV> for droege_p@al.eop.gov; Fri, 11 Jul 1997 23:59:33 -0500 (EST) Received: from umdS.umd.edu ([128.8.10.5)) by STORM.EDP.GOV (PMDF VS.1-7 #6B79) with ESMTP id <01IL4NOYYNVI002FD7@STORM.EOP.GOV> for droege_p@al.eop.gov; Fri, 11 Jul 1997 23:59:01 -0400 (EDT) Received: from [12B.8.19.148) (ascend3-21.dial.umd.edu [12B.8.19.14B]) by umd5.umd.edu(8.8.S/95Sepl3) with ESMTP id RAA30919; Fri, 11 Jul 1997 17:59:53 -0400 (EDT) X-Sender: psll2@umailsrvO.umd.edu To: Recipient List Suppressed.;@umail.umd.edu@umdS.umd.edu X-Mailer: Mac EudoraPro v.3.1.1 -------- ------ ---- END ATTAC H MENT 1 ==================
